Brisbane FC Wolves continued their strong form to inflict the first loss of the Premier League season on Rochedale Rovers and secure an outright top four berth.
FC Wolves moved to 24 points on the ladder with a stunning 3-0 win over the defending champions and league leaders at Underwood Park on Sunday evening.
Coach Sam Saif was elated with the result, but urged FC Wolves supporters not to get carried away.
‘'It was a superb win, the boys should be very proud, they thoroughly deserved it,'' Saif said. ‘'While it's great to beat the league leaders, we don't get any extra for beating Rochedale, it's still only three points. If we can go on and achieve what they have in the next three years, we'll know we're on the right track ‘'
The home side had a player sent off in the first half after a dangerous tackle, but Saif said Rochedale just kept pushing forward. FC Wolves went to the break leading 1-0 after a far post header was squeezed inside the post by David Rowley and then continued to dominate and attack on the break in the second half.
‘'We played some great stuff and Trent Clulow (pictured) scored a world class second goal when he chipped the keeper from about 40 yards,'' Saif said. ‘'They had a lad sent off and to be fair they just kept coming at us, they're a very good side. While we were able to score a few goals I was really happy with the defence, they did their job well, the whole team did for that matter.''
Ryan Cambell finished the contest for the visitors with their third goal of the night after outclassing the last defender before calmly slotting his sixth goal in 3 matches for his new club.
Saif will now have to get the side back ‘up' again for Wednesday night's Cup match against Peninsula Power at Carmichael Park and the big away match against Brisbane City on Sunday.
‘'It's a big week with three games in seven days, but we have to stay focussed. The league is very tight, we're playing well, but we have to keep it going.''
In other results the Youth team played out a hard fought nil all draw against Rochedale, who are still unbeaten at Youth level this season and the Reserves lost another tough encounter 1-0.
Rochedale Rovers 0 Brisbane FC Wolves 3 (David Rowley, Trent Clulow, Ryan Campbell). Half Time: 0-1.
