Brisbane FC Take It To Strikers

Brisbane FC gave Premier League heavyweights the Brisbane Strikers a huge fright on Saturday night showing how far the club have come this season.

Although going down 4-3, for about two thirds of the match FC Wolves more than matched it with the Strikers, who were on their home turf at Perry Park.

FC Wolves coach Sam Saif said while it was disappointing not come home with something, the signs are good for the future.

''We've been together for three months, so to go to the Strikers, who are one of the powerhouses of Brisbane football and be in control for an hour, shows just how far we have come this season,'' Saif said.

''I think a lot of people thought we'd get steamrolled, but we didn't take our chances when they arose. We had a chance to kill the game off, but we missed a penalty which would have made it 3-1.''

FC Wolves went ahead through in form striker Cadeau Aoci after only 10 minutes. The Strikers equalised soon after, but Aoci made it a double just before the break to give the visitors a 2-1 lead.

The Strikers clawed their way back to draw level in the 60th minute and hit the front soon after.

FC Wolves striker Jonathon Viney followed through after hitting the crossbar and set-up a thrilling finish when he netted the equaliser in the 75th minute. However, the home side netted again in the dying stages to snatch the win and maintain second spot on the ladder behind Rochedale.

The Strikers earned their win, playing the second half with 10-men after a send-off, but Saif said Strikers keeper Ryan pearce was the hero.

''He saved a penalty and made three or four top drawer saves, it was an outstanding effort.''
