A missed penalty proved costly for Brisbane FC Wolves in their hard fought 0-all draw against Brisbane Olympic at Goodwin Park on Sunday.
The result gave FC Wolves their first point for the Premier League season. They can expand on that when they meet Mt Gravatt at Carmichael Park on Thursday night (7.30pm kick-off).
In an end to end battle both sides had chances. Brisbane FC the glut of possession in the first half and the home side dominating in the second.
Winger John De Vae had a chance to put the visitors ahead, but blasted his penalty kick over the bar. In a sad note for FC Wolves De Vae may not play for the club again as he is returning to the United States for personal reasons.
FC Wolves coach Sam Saif was delighted with the performance against one of last year's finalists, who fielded a State League side.
‘'I was pleased with the effort, to come away with a point against one of the highly rated sides in the league is a good result,'' Saif said.
‘'They fielded a very strong side and we have basically been together for eight or nine weeks. We're on the board now and will look to improve on that against Mt Gravatt.''
Wade Davidson (pictured) had another strong match for FC Wolves, controlling the midfield. Centre backs Alvin Hudson and Paul Mikula were very solid at the back and helped make life easier for keeper Ben Wicks.
Earlier this month FC Wolves held a 1-0 advantage over Mt Gravatt, but the match had to be abandoned when Mt Gravatt striker Cameron Hunt seriously injured his arm early in the second half.
