Brisbane FC Ready for Heavyweights

 brisbane_fc_rgb

Brisbane FC will chase their first points of the Premier League season when they take on heavyweights Brisbane Olympic's State League side at Goodwin Park on Sunday.

Brisbane FC narrowly lost their season opener 1-0 against Pine Rivers and had last week's match against Mt Gravatt called off when they held a 1-0 lead.

FC Wolves coach Sam Saif will again have an understrengthed squad available and the side faces a mammoth task against Olympic's State League outfit.

Saif also has a lot of respect for experienced coach Bobby Hamilton.

''We'll still be down at least three regular first team players. In saying that I've been happy with the way we've played in the first two matches, well one and a half matches,'' Saif said. ''We're creating chances,  just not getting on the end of them, which we'll need to do against Olympic.

''They'll be hurting after their loss to Rochedale and unfortunately for us we get to play their State League squad, which has been available for the first three rounds of the season. Bobby's reputation goes before him, so we're definitely the underdogs.''

The half game Saif was referring to was last week's match against Mt Gravatt. An injury to hawks striker Cameron Hunt in the second half of the Carmichael Park match forced it to be abandoned.

Hunt could not be moved from the field and because of the delay in the ambulance arriving officials called a halt.

Mt. Gravatt coach Karl Herdle praised Wolve's officials who helped attend to the injured Hunt. "They were fantastic considering the situation," Herdle said. "They were leading but they understood how serious the injury was. When we got Cameron to hospital the doctors said it was lucky he wasn't moved as the bone was nearly through the skin."

Saif said the players welfare was paramount.

''In the end it's only a game, players safety and welfare is all that matters. We've also heard Cameron is on the mend and we wish him a speedy recovery.''

Brisbane FC Wolves v Brisbane Olympic kick-off 4pm, Goodwin Park.
