Former Mitchelton keeper Ben Wicks has signed with Brisbane FC Wolves for the upcoming Premier League season.
Wicks, 21, turned in a strong performance in the Wolves 2-1 pre-season win over Rochedale last Saturday. Coach Sam Saif said Wicks will start the season as the side's number one keeper when Brisbane FC play their first match against Pine Rivers at Wendy Allison Park on Saturday week (March 1).
Saif expects plenty of compeition for keeping duties. Wolves have three quality glove men, Ryan Pearce, Adrian Ghidella and Luke McDonald, who will be pushing Wicks for the top job.
''We're delighted to have Ben join us and at this stage he's our first choice keeper. But I expect the other lads will be pushing him, which is a good thing. Like any position in the team no one is guaranteed their spot, players have to work for it,'' Saif said.
Saif was not getting carried away with the upset win over Rochedale.
''We received no points, no cups, it was just a friendly against the benchmark side of the competition. I was pleased with the way the boys played and it showed we are going down the right track and will be competitive.''
Brisbane FC will fine tune their game in the final pre-season match of the season against Toowoomba at Clive Berghofer Stadium on Saturday 23rd February, kick-off times are 1.30,3.30 and 5.30pm for Premier League.
